Do you have a 1440p monitor but can never take advantage of the resolution, being forced to play games in 1080p on your PS5 console? Well, that's finally changing with the just-announced PS5 beta update, which introduces 1440p, gamelists, and new PS5 UX enhancements and social features. Here's a closer look at what's coming in this beta update and when we could expect the official update to roll out for public use.
**New Gameplay and Personalisation Options**

Let's be honest. Most gamers have been asking for 1440p support on PS5 consoles since PS5 launched back in November 2020. Whatever took Sony so long to introduce the feature, it's finally coming. The beta update introduces support for 1440p HDMI video output, enabling gamers with a 1440p compatible gaming monitor or TV to finally take advantage of such visual upgrades. Not only is this benefit applicable to native resolutions, but also upscaling. Players can expect full 1440p rendering on games that support 1440p whilst using native 1440p to upscale your experience in 4K.
This means that if you're playing a game that supports 4K, you'll no longer be upscaling via 1080p thanks to the newly improved anti-aliasing through supersampling at 1440p, bringing a better gaming experience to benefit PS5 gamers. Those with access to the beta programme may test the feature out by selecting 'Test 1440p Output' in the 'Screen and Video' option within the system settings. Remember that this feature is only available if your monitor or TV is 1440p compatible.
A quick note: VRR on PS5 supports 1080p and 4K video output, but not 1440p according to PlayStation. We also have no information yet on whether or not this 1440p update will also bring a 120Hz option rather than the standard 1440p 60Hz option. As always, time will tell.

PlayStation is also introducing gamelists. In other words, these are folders to organise your games better in the 'Game Library' of your PS5 console. To use this feature, visit your 'Game Library' and select 'Create Gamelist' in the 'Your Collection' tab. This'll let you add games to your gamelist and name the folder, allowing the easy organisation of your favourite games. There are limits to how many games you can put in a gamelist, though you shouldn't worry, as the update provides plenty of space. You can create up to 15 gamelists, each capable of holding 100 games. These game folders can contain any game visible in your game library, including physical games (that you've downloaded), digital games, and streaming titles. These folders also support the ability to add the same game to multiple different gamelists if that's something you'd like to do.

Sony famously markets Pulse 3D for its 3D audio feature, which even made it to the product's name. After so long, they're finally allowing players to test the difference between 3D audio and standard stereo in settings. Users can then go ahead and select the audio type they prefer for their gaming experience.

Ever started an activity in-game to earn a trophy you've wanted but could never begin from where you left off? This PS5 beta update now allows easier access to in-progress activities by allowing players to resume their activity straight from the game hub to make it as easy and fast as possible to get back where they left off.
**New Social Features**

Players can now request party members to start sharing their screens to watch their gameplay. Although you could ask them using your voice since you're in the party talking with them, the request screen share feature is still an excellent addition, most likely for players who get in a party muted.

Another small addition is based on games played by your friends in parties. If you join a party with other members, and they're playing a game you can play, your PS5 will send you a notification giving you the option to enter your friend's game so you can play with them, making it slightly more accessible than going back to your home screen and starting up a game from there.
