PlayStation is releasing their second beta system software which includes new ways to personalise your experience on the PS5, focused on party chat, Game Base and accessibility settings. PS4 users signed up to the beta programme will also receive an update, focused on the highly requested Open Parties feature, also included in the PS5 beta system software update.

PS5 players who are part of the beta programme will see a new feature based on using voice commands with their PlayStation 5 consoles, whether that’s to open games and apps, or controlling media playback. However, this feature will only be accessible to participants who live in either the U.S. or the U.K.

Here are some of the updates made to the PlayStation Parties system:
Open and Closed Parties (PS5 and PS4 betas) can now select either an open or closed party. The difference is, open parties will allow your friends (and friends of friends) to see and join your party without an invite, whereas a closed party will be private, only accessible for players you invite.

A note directly quoted by Sony:
“in Game Base on PS5 and Party on PS4, if you select [Open Party] when starting a party, only players using the beta version of the PS5 or PS4 system software will be able to join. To start a party that players who aren’t using the beta version can also join, select [Closed Party].”

PS5 players will receive a voice chat reporting feature. These are visual changes such as indicators for you to identify which player is speaking if you were to report something they’ve said. Once reported, the PlayStation Safety team will assess the situation and take the appropriate action required, based on the report.

A share play update will also be tested by PS5 beta participants, where PS5 players can begin a Share Play session directly from the voice chat card itself, eliminating the need for a PS5 player beginning the Share Screen feature before Share Playing with another member in the party.

Beta participants on the PS4 can finally adjust the voice chat volume of their friends individually within the party, by simply clicking their name, the same way PS5 users can on the PS5 UI.

Players with the new PS5 beta software will spot that voice chats have been renamed to parties. Additionally, the Game Base menu has been split into three different sections (Friends, Parties, and Messages) for easier access.

Players on the PS5 beta software can now view their friends list within the control menu when visiting the Game Base card, with additional search player and friend request features, enabling a smoother experience.

These players will also find that adding a player to a party or creating a brand-new party is so much easier as the update enables you to do this right from the Game Base menu itself, within the Control Centre.

Players in a PS5 party will now see an ‘on air’ icon if someone within the party is sharing their screen. Sony has also added a ‘decline’ button beside new friend requests within the friends list, making it easier to decline incoming requests.

An all-new filter option has been added to the PS5 UI, enabling players to quickly find a game within a genre of their choice.

Additionally, a new ‘Keep in Home’ button has also been added when pressing the options button on your DualSense Wireless controller, giving players the option to pin games on their home screen, with a maximum limit of five games/apps.

Players have requested more games and apps to be visible on their home screen, which Sony has taken on board, giving players 14 games and apps to appear on their home screen.

Trophies have also been updated with visual card changes whilst playing a game, with suggestions now visible for which trophies to earn and access, all via the Control Centre.
