Nintendo has confirmed that it will raise the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 in several major markets later this year, citing changing market conditions and longer-term business pressures.

In a statement released by Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, the company announced revised manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) for the upcoming console across Europe, the United States, and Canada.

The revised pricing is as follows:

• Europe: €469.99 → €499.99
• United States: $449.99 → $499.99
• Canada: CA$629.99 → CA$679.99

The new prices will take effect on September 1, 2026.

Nintendo said the decision was made “in light of changes in market conditions” and after considering the company’s “global business outlook.” The company also suggested that broader economic pressures are expected to continue over the medium to long term.

In its statement, Nintendo apologised to customers and stakeholders for the increase, adding that it “deeply appreciates your understanding.”

The announcement marks a notable shift for Nintendo, as console manufacturers have traditionally avoided raising hardware prices after launch. However, rising manufacturing costs, inflation, currency fluctuations, and ongoing supply chain pressures have increasingly affected the wider games industry in recent years.

While Nintendo has not yet announced a price revision for the UK, many expect one to follow shortly. Given the increases confirmed across Europe and North America, it would be surprising if the UK market remained unaffected for long.

If Nintendo applies a similar increase in Britain, the current UK price of the Switch 2 could potentially rise by around £30 to £50. However, the company has not provided any official guidance.

The timing of the increase may also prove controversial among consumers. Nintendo’s next-generation hardware has already faced scrutiny over pricing, particularly as players compare the cost of the console, its accessories, and first-party games with those of competing platforms.

Even so, demand for Nintendo hardware remains strong globally, and the company is likely betting that enthusiasm for the Switch 2 and its software lineup will outweigh concerns over the higher entry price.

More details on regional pricing, including any potential UK revision, are expected in the coming weeks.
