The latest Discord mobile app beta has revealed that an updated Discord integration is coming to PS5 consoles very soon. It all began when Sony Interactive Entertainment invested into Discord, announcing a public partnership on March 3, 2021. President & CEO of PlayStation, Jim Ryan, commented "Together, our teams are already hard at work connecting Discord with your social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network. Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together." which shows the opportunities this could bring, especially in connecting the PS5 and PC industries once Sony integrate Discord voice chat as opposed to the official PS Party chat voice channel.

A Reddit user, [Syhix](https://www.reddit.com/r/discordapp/comments/ybcs9g/discord_ps5_voice_integration/), published 3 screenshots displaying the UI on Discord's mobile app. In these images, we can see that the Discord integration prompts users must sign in with their PlayStation Network account to display their PlayStation ID and the games they're playing. When visiting a voice chat, you'll be given an option of joining directly from your smartphone, or the option between joining the voice chat on Xbox or PlayStation consoles. However, the exact statement on each platform differs, as the Xbox feature says, "Join on Xbox" whilst the PlayStation feature says "Join Voice on PlayStation" which could potentially mean PS5 gamers would get voice chat features before Xbox, without the need of your smartphone.
**PlayStation and Xbox race to integrate Discord directly from consoles**
Currently, Microsoft has acted first in integrating Discord accounts on Xbox. It works but isn't exactly what we imagined it to be. You can't join a voice chat directly from your Xbox Series X|S console but have to have the Discord mobile app open which acts as the middleman to connect two devices (your Xbox console and phone) with Discord, enabling players to feely communicate with those on PC. Either way, it seems both Xbox and PlayStation consoles will integrate discord voice chat, easing the process of cross-platform communication. As of now, PC players can only communicate PlayStation users on the PS mobile app as a means of cross-platform voice chat. This isn't the best approach for desktop users as they need to rely on their smartphone as a means of an extra connection compared to communicating directly from their computer.
**How to connect your Discord and PlayStation Network account**
Since January 2022, you can integrate your PSN account with Discord which will display what games you're playing on PS4/PS5 in real-time as your Discord status. This will only work if you're appearing online on Discord and on your PS4/PS5 console. Here's how you can connect your PSN account with Discord:
1. Open Discord and visit User Settings.
2. In settings, visit Connections.
3. In connections, click the PlayStation logo

That should prompt you into connecting your PlayStation Network account by signing in. Once you've completed these steps, your Discord and PSN account are successfully integrated. You can complete the steps above on the Discord app for mobile phones, desktop app or using the official Discord website. Now we all have to wait patiently until March 2023 for the release of firmware update 7.00 on PS5 consoles.

**Will Discord voice chat come to PlayStation?**
According to [Tom Henderson](https://twitter.com/_Tom_Henderson_/status/1563222840484106240), this will be available on PS5 consoles during March 2023. This specific date is not officially confirmed by Sony however, PlayStation will allegedly add Discord voice chat on PS5 consoles. This could be better compared to the official party chat used by PlayStation players, as Discord is known for its high-audio quality in voice channels, especially for those who subscribe Nitro, allowing users to game as they use Discord.
**Does PS5 have Discord?**
PS5 cannot run Discord but can connect to your Discord account by connecting your PSN account in Discord's user settings. Once integrated, users can start chatting using Discord as their new means of instant messaging with other players on gaming and other topics. Most of us in the gaming industry know this is a big step in the right direction for Sony once the full integration is available in the coming months.
