Yes, you've heard it right, PlayStation has increased the RRP of PS5 consoles. This could be good news for PS5 owners who sell their consoles in the future but very upsetting news for gamers who are still planning to make their PS5 purchase a reality. Jim Ryan confirms that the price increase is due to the current global economic environment and high inflation rates. In July, the UK recorded an inflation rate of around 10%, whilst other countries such as Turkey are threatened by their economy, with an inflation rate of approximately 79%. In other words, the direction of the global economy isn't looking great, and action needs to be taken now.
Here's a list of the new PS5 console prices (immediately in effect):
**UK**
- PS5 Disc Edition: £479.99- PS5 Digital Edition: £389.99
**Europe**
- PS5 Disc Edition: €549.99- PS5 Digital Edition: €449.99
**Japan** (effective Sept. 15, 2022)
- PS5 Disc Edition: ¥60,478 yen (including tax)- PS5 Digital Edition: ¥49,478 yen (including tax)
**China**
- PS5 Disc Edition: ¥4,299 yuan- PS5 Digital Edition: ¥3,499 yuan
**Australia**
- PS5 Disc Edition: AUD $799.95- PS5 Digital Edition: AUD $649.95
**Mexico**
- PS5 Disc Edition: MXN $14,999- PS5 Digital Edition: MXN $12,499
**Canada**
- PS5 Disc Edition: CAD $649.99- PS5 Digital Edition: CAD $519.99
As you see, there will be no price increase in the United States as US citizens already pay tax on top of the PS5 console RRP based on their state.
Jim Ryan mentions:
"While this price increase is a necessity given the current global economic environment and its impact on SIE’s business, our top priority continues to be improving the PS5 supply situation so that as many players as possible can experience everything that PS5 offers and what’s still to come. Thank you for your continued support."
